The existence of two million bloggers in this country in Australia to prove free media publish the opinion and criticism of their own, said Information Minister Datuk Seri Communication and Culture Rais Yatim.
He told the Dewan Rakyat today that the development of information technology, the opportunity for any party to speak and give their opinion has not been banned by the government.
"We can see now, alternative media, especially the mass media, the more vigorous development of the broadband service.
"It was reported that there are about two million bloggers in the country that is free to report their views and reflects the independence of the media in this country," he said answering a question Teng Boon Soon (BN-Tebrau) who wanted to know whether the mass media freedom in this country is still limited, as reported by Freedom House study from the United States who claims to have free media in Malaysia.

It is said that Malaysia currently has 76 daily newspapers, including the opposition-owned, 151 satellite television channels, nine non-performing channel (owned by government and private) and 53 radio channels.
"This does not include IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) which will be a little more common among people with broadband service," he said.
Developments clearly show that the mass media in this country is not limited as claimed Freedom House, and it is a "comfortable chair report," said Rais.
However, he said, media practitioners are still required to ensure each item you want published to comply with the law and ethical standards set by government.
